Taracoa Lagoon

This lagoon is located in the Francisco de Orellana Canton (El Coca) in the province of Orellana, in the Amazon of Ecuador. It is an attractive and the habitat of countless species.

Location Laguna Taracoa: It is located geographically in east longitude: 303895 and north latitude: 9948962, this lagoon is the largest in the Francisco de Orellana canton, it is surrounded by flood forests, it is fed by several local estuaries and Amazonian rains.

It is located in the Amazonian plain, surrounded by lush vegetation and flood forests, it is fed by rain and several ramifications of estuaries, a tributary is a small ravine called Taracoa and is 12 kilometers long and is one of the tributaries of the right bank of the Napo River. It has a great variety of fauna and flora. In the northern sector of the lagoon is the forest where it is protected so that it can be the habitat of several species. The landscape is incredibly impressive, this lagoon flows into the Napo River.

Occasionally, national, local and foreign visitors attend the lagoon for recreational activities and biodiversity observation. The lagoon allows canoes, picnics and observation of the flood forest or surrounding swamps and sport fishing. Local residents, carry out artisanal and subsistence fishing activities, also serving as a waterway for farmers settled in the southern sector of the lagoon in the town of Playas.         

How to get there?

Its access from the City of Coca is relatively easy and the route from the Community of Taracea reaches the southern margin of the lagoon.

Entering the site is easily made from the city of Coca, via Auca, then take the detour to the Parish of Taracea, it takes 15 minutes  from there . The road reaches a parking lot very close to the lagoon, where there is a small pier for photography or rest.
