    Cumbaya Meaning:
It is believed that the area where Cumbayá is settled was visited by the Yumbos (who were the first inhabitants of Quito, originally from the coast who settled in the mountains), among these travelers there was a couple. And the union of their names gave rise to Cumbayá (Cumba - he) and (Ya - she). (Secretariat of Culture of Quito)
  • Another belief is that the name comes from the word cumbaja which in Quichua means "let's go friend this way". (Secretariat of Culture of Quito)
  • According to Father Juan de Velasco, the toponymics of the Quitus, Cumbayá is interpreted, (of the colorado, kum = tronar), (of the canopy, bai = two) and (already = house).
  • It is also believed that it could have a religious origin, since in Hebrew Cumbaya means "God with us."
  • Cumbayá from quechua language  Cumba de cumpa, partner: now; Yes: If they are partners. Strange confession that leads us to see that it was established by Quechua mitimaes; that did not present any resistance to the Quechua invaders for what they called them as true companions.
  • According to other sources, it is believed that Cumbayá or Cumbaiá is related to the Cayambi language, this means that Cumbayá means a brush, a natural species of the valley that was collected by the zambizas because of how close it was to them to reach our parish. (Rojas, 2018)
