Papallacta town in Ecuador initially it was a  Pichincha province Quito rural parish, but in 1920, when Napo province was created, it became part of it, to which it belonged until January 17, 1955, when Quijos was cantonized became part of that new jurisdiction.

Papallacta Meaning

Some believe that Papallacta comes from "papa", a highly cultivated tuber in the area and "llacta", which means land in Quichua. By lot so much Papallacta would mean "Land of potatoes."
Another theory says that Pope comes from Taita, which means father in Spanish,  because in ancient times, a shaman was well known for his healing powers, so they called him Taita Shaman, over time the term Taitallacta would be populized ( land of dad) and later Papallacta.
